Living in the Baltics
Mobile internet in the Baltics: data-only eSIM for work & study
If you live in Latvia, Lithuania, or Estonia and rely on your phone for work shifts, delivery apps, commuting, or university life, predictable mobile data matters. A data-only eSIM is a fast way to get online and a practical backup if your main SIM runs out of data.

- Hotspot-friendly setup for laptop work and study

What Proland eSIM is (and what it is not)
Proland sells mobile data eSIM plans. In most cases they are data-only: internet for apps, maps, and messaging.
It does not give you a Baltic phone number. If you need a local number for calls/SMS, keep your current SIM or get a local plan from a mobile operator. You can still use Proland eSIM for data in parallel.
If you need long-term unlimited data and a local number, a local contract is often the best fit. If you want a fast start, a short-term solution, or a backup data line for everyday life, an eSIM is convenient.
Best setup by scenario (quick decision)
| Scenario | What usually works best | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New resident / first week | Data eSIM + keep your main SIM | Get online fast; keep SMS/OTP on your main number. |
| Delivery & shift work (Bolt/Wolt, etc.) | Main SIM for your number + eSIM as backup data | Less risk of downtime if you run out of data mid-shift. |
| Student / remote work | Plan with enough GB + hotspot | Laptop tethering and video calls consume data quickly. |
| Cross-border life (LV–LT–EE) | One active data line at a time | Fewer switching issues when you cross borders. |
Avoid downtime: practical tips for everyday use
- Dual SIM tip: double-check which line is selected for “Mobile Data”.
- Allow background data for critical work apps, but disable heavy auto-updates on mobile data.
- Download offline maps for your city/commute and save your activation details offline.
- Keep battery stable: carry a power bank and avoid constant “network hunting” in weak areas.
- If data stops: toggle Airplane mode for 10 seconds, restart, and (if needed) enable Data Roaming for the eSIM line.
- For sensitive logins, avoid open public Wi‑Fi when possible; mobile data is often safer.
EU roaming & cross-border travel (residents)
If you already have an EU/EEA SIM, roaming in the Baltics often works like at home. Still, many operators apply fair-use limits — especially if you spend most of your time abroad.
If you use a non‑EU SIM, roaming can be expensive. A data eSIM plan usually gives clearer cost control: you pick days and GB and know what you pay.
When you cross a border, keep one data source at a time to avoid confusing settings and unexpected switching.
